After one year of PBV assistance the family may terminate the lease and must be offered continued tenant-based assistance

The family may terminate the assisted lease at any time after one year of PBV assistance, giving the owner advance written notice with a copy to the PHA. Where it does, the PHA must offer the family the opportunity for continued tenant-based rental assistance under the voucher program or other comparable assistance. Before giving notice the family must contact the PHA to request it, and if none is immediately available the PHA must give the family priority for the next available opportunity. A family that terminates before one year relinquishes that opportunity.
