Terms of use

Plain terms for using Compliance Atlas. Using the site means accepting them.

What this is, and what it is not

Compliance Atlas states what published rules require, with a citation to the document each statement comes from. It is a reference, not a determination and not legal advice. It does not tell you whether you are compliant; it tells you what the rule says and which of its tests it could and could not check against the facts you gave.

A result is a starting point for a compliance professional, not a substitute for one. Decisions about a real property, a real household or a real filing are yours, and should be made with the underlying document and, where it matters, with counsel.

Accuracy, and its limits

Every rule is traced to a source document, and the coverage page states what the corpus does and does not hold, counted from the database rather than asserted. We publish the gaps deliberately, because an unmarked gap is worse than a known one.

Even so, the corpus can be wrong or out of date. Agencies amend documents in place, replace them without notice, and sometimes contradict themselves; where we have found that, the record says so. The service is provided as it is, without a warranty that it is accurate, complete, current or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for a loss arising from relying on it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

If you find something wrong, tell us through the request form. Corrections are the point of the project.

Accounts

Sign-in is by emailed link. Keep access to your email account secure, since anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

You can close your account at any time and have everything held against it deleted. See the privacy page.

Price

The federal layer is free to everyone, including without an account. Billing is not switched on: no card is taken and nobody is charged. Accounts created during early access have the paid tier at no cost until billing opens, and keep that price when it does.

We will not start charging an existing account without telling it first and giving it the chance to decline. Features marked “in build” are not available today and are not promised by a date.

What we ask

Use the service for your own compliance work, including your clients’. Do not bulk-extract the corpus to reproduce or resell it, and do not resell access. The underlying statutes, regulations and agency documents are public and always yours to read at the source; the compilation, the structure, the tests and the editorial work are ours.

Do not attempt to reach data you are not entitled to, and do not put a load on the service that degrades it for others. We may suspend an account that does either.

Availability and changes

This is early access. There is no uptime commitment, and the service may change or be interrupted. We may change these terms; if a change materially affects you, we will say so rather than quietly reposting the page. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance.

Questions go to the contact form. See also the privacy page.
